There is separation of Church and State.
1. "State Religion" may refer to the major state religion of a country, but it does not mean that the Church runs the country or that the state mandates the religion to the country.
2. "State Religion" may also refer to theocracies wherein the Religious Law and Civil Law are considered as one. For example the Muslim countries.
3. There are states which monitor and regulate religion like China and Vietnam. Its regulations are so extreme that they even appoint the bishops of the dioceses.
4. The Vatican is a separate state from Italy. Civil authorities may practice and have contrary views with religious authorities.
For example, a lot of Christians in America but there is abortion. Muslim countries who allow women to run for public office (Malaysia and Indonesia) and have Christian Churches. India who have groceries and shops who sell beef.
