Chinese celebrity couple Dicky Cheung and Zhang Qian held their wedding ceremony on Monday (Jan 12) at the 400-year-old San Agustin Church in Manila, Philippines.
WITH their superstar status in Hong Kong and China, you’d think movie actors Dicky Cheung and Zhang Qian (or Jess Zhang) would pick a famous place in the Orient to wed, but no, they chose to exchange vows by Manila Bay’s famous sunset.
Last January 12, the couple tied the knot at the San Agustin Church in Intramuros, Manila and held an intimate gathering with friends and family as well as selected members of the international media at Sofitel Philippine Plaza.

Monkey King is based on a true story of a famous monk, Xuan Zang of the Chinese Tang Dynasty (602-664). After a decade of trials and tribulations, he arrived on foot to what is today India, the birthplace of Buddhism. He was there for the true Buddhist holy books. When he returned, Xuan Zang translated the Sutras into Chinese, thus making a great contribution to the development of Buddhism in China.

Chinese superstars wed in Manila By Bianca Consunji Philippine Daily Inquirer First Posted 04:58:00 03/15/2009 WITH their superstar status in Hong Kong and China, you’d think movie actors Dicky Cheung and Zhang Qian (or Jess Zhang) would pick a famous place in the Orient to wed, but no, they chose to exchange vows by Manila Bay’s famous sunset. Last January 12, the couple tied the knot at the San Agustin Church in Intramuros, Manila and held an intimate gathering with friends and family as well as selected members of the international media at Sofitel Philippine Plaza. The choice of the venue, although common for many local weddings, was initially deemed unusual for the Chinese stars. However, Zhang (who is also the Philippine Department of Tourism’s Team China spokesman) said that the Philippines was slowly becoming a popular destination for weddings for Hong Kong and Chinese citizens, particularly the small Catholic population, because of its beautiful old churches and reliable teams of wedding planners. Cheung added having their wedding at the San Agustin Church was only appropriate, as the 400-year-old church symbolized their hopes for a long-lasting, stable union. Cheung said, “I hope our marriage will be as solid as the church.” How they met The couple met 10 years ago while doing the TV series, “The Legend of Chen Mengji.” They have been together since then, although Cheung was based in Hong Kong as a comedian and Zhang was based in Beijing doing movies. In an interview with the press, Zhang also said that she was willing to give up her career in order to settle down and start a family. During the wedding and reception, the quirky stars made sure to inject a bit of sass into their outfits. Zhang, for instance, wore a white wig to the ceremony (closed to friends and family) to symbolize growing old with Cheung and wore a gown by local designer Frankie de Leon. The groom, on the other hand, wore what he called a “Valentino-pink” suit to the reception. Before the reception, guests were treated to a fireworks display at the Sofitel garden, and members of the Bayanihan Dance Troupe performed numbers for the crowd. After that, the String Minstrels serenaded guests with popular songs and classical pieces while Max Tiu emceed the program. Creative team Some of Manila’s top wedding suppliers were responsible for the decoration and food at the wedding. Jing Tanada provided the reception flowers, while Teddy Manuel took care of the bouquet and church flowers. A video by Imacron Manila and slide show by Lito Sy entertained the crowd, and Penk Ching of Pasty Bin provided a show-stopping cake. Wedding coordinator Rita Neri organized the event and put together what was dubbed the “creative dream team of Filipino wedding suppliers.” The couple also gave special thanks to Sofitel Philippine Plaza’s general manager Berrn Schneider, director of marketing Rose Libongco and their team. “Work may tie us down in China, but we’ll be back in the Philippines because it feels like home away from home,” Zhang said.
